The air was thick with smoky smell, a peculiar mix of burning wood and the damp, stale tang of wetsoil. Bayside Burn
It all started last summer/in the spring/a few months ago. A small fire/blaze/spark erupted in the woods/brush/trees near the beautiful/picturesque/scenic bayside. It was a horrible/terrible/devastating sight to see/witness/observe, with thick smoke/billowing clouds of ash/an eerie haze filling the air/sky/atmosphere.
The firefighters/rescue crews/emergency responders did their best to contain the blaze/fire/inferno, but it was a tough/difficult/challenging battle. They had to evacuate/relocate/disperse many residents from their homes, and some businesses/structures/buildings were destroyed/lost/consumed. Luckily, there were no more info serious injuries/casualties/fatalities, but the damage/impact/destruction was significant.
